The Department receives direction from a Board of Commissioners representing the two Towns. In addition to the primary areas of responsibility, the Department is an active member of the Zone Two Mutual Aid Association which provides assistance to eight fire services in the area upon request. Established in 1924 as Rothesay's volunteer fire Department, the department has grown over the years. Today the Department is a composite organization comprised of a Chief, Deputy Chief, twenty-eight career staff, six part-time fire fighters, and thirty volunteer fire fighters. Housed in two fire stations are two rapid intervention vehicles, three pumpers, a Quint, three tankers, an equipment van, a Boston Whaler rescue boat, an all terrain vehicle and three service vehicles.
