Our message has been simple; smoke alarms save lives. Last night this fact was proven yet again when a working smoke alarm alerted a Rothesay man to a fire in his home. He escaped his smoke filled home moments before a fire erupted in the house.
The KVFD was dispatched around 3:30 am to this fire on Riverview Ave in Rothesay. On arrival, fire crews found the home fully involved in fire and it took them nearly 5 hours to completely extinguish the stubborn blaze. The age and type of building construction contributed to the time it took to completely extinguish the fire.
One firefighter received minor injuries during the incident and was assessed by paramedics but was not transported to the hospital.
